Developed by the World Health Organization (WHO), a “Safe Community” is a community where people can live, work and play safely and healthily. “Safe Community” is an integrated approach to occupational safety and health promotion in Hong Kong to develop a safety culture in community level. The “Safe Community” approach provides a focal point for the community leaders, employers and employees of large and small enterprises, policemen, firemen, safety professionals and those who are keen in community affairs, to build up a better community where they work or live. Occupational Safety & Health Council has established the first two safe communities, Tuen Mun Safe Community and Kwai Tsing Safe Community, in Hong Kong in 2000. The Council also enters an agreement with the WHO to be its 6th Affiliate Safe Community Support Centre on 21 March 2000, as a milestone in safety promotion in Hong Kong and the Region. |
