Different trades and professions face different OSH issues, because of the diverse types of work they involve. To provide necessary and timely information as well as extension activities to meet the needs of individual manufacturing and commercial industries in Hong Kong, the Council has established 12 industry-based committees. These cover Metalware & Plastics Industry; Sedentary Workers; Printing, Publishing & Newspaper Industry; Property Management and Cleaning Service; the Construction Industry; Textiles and Dyeing Industry; Shipbuilding & Ship-repairing Industry; Transport & Physical Distribution Industry; Catering & Hospitality Services; Electronics & Communication Industry; Electrical & Mechanical Industry and Health Care Services.
These committees consist of employers and employees, plus professional and academic representatives and Government officials. They hold regular meetings to explore occupational safety and health issues of common interest. In addition, they arrange various activities and produce informative publications, publicity materials and educational videotapes to strengthen awareness of OSH among employers and employees in their respective industries. The following is a brief introduction to their work.
